Castle Rock Mall Hail Damage Repair and Cleanup

Matthew Valdez, an employee with SERVPRO of Castle Rock / Parker, walks us through a recent job his office is finishing up at Colorado Mills Mall.

A recent hailstorm caused a major amount of damage to stores throughout the entire mall. SERVPRO was called in by the property management company responsible for the mall’s upkeep to remediate and repair the damage. Matthew is going to explain the process and details of the steps he and his fellow team members took to complete the job.

The incredible amount of hail that crashed through the windows and roof left an equally incredible amount of water when it melted. Matthew and his team can be seen using squeegees, and water extraction wands to remove it from one of the mall’s retail outlets.

All of that water also helped to raise the overall humidity of the mall, making it unpleasant for customers and employees. Matthew takes us outside to show where they set up three, commercial-grade, desiccate dehumidifiers. These machines create warm, dry air and force it through flexible tubing into the stores where it pushes out the cooler, moist air to the outside of the mall. By lowering the humidity level, dehumidifiers also help to prevent mold and other microbial growth from occurring.

Also shown next to the tubing is a set of air movers which perform the same humidity reduction task on a smaller level. These devices are excellent for forcing air out of bathrooms, stock rooms, changing rooms, and other, smaller areas. Where water had soaked carpets or leeched into drywall, Matthew’s team can also use these air movers to dry out both. They adjust the devices to a lower heat setting that does not damage the backing or nape of the carpet or turn the drywall brittle by forcing too much heat across the surfaces.
